Johannes Pollak to Become Rector of Sigmund Freud Private University Vienna
August 02, 2024
Johannes Pollak, who has been the rector of Webster Vienna Private University for six years and a full-time professor for eight years prior, has accepted the rectorship at Sigmund Freud University in Vienna. He will begin in his new role in early 2025.
Pollak assumed the position as the head of the Vienna campus in 2016. Under his leadership, the campus successfully completed two Austrian accreditation visits and maintained Webster’s high standards for teaching and learning. Located in a historic Viennese palace, Webster Vienna continues to be a highly attractive location for both Austrian and international students and faculty.
“Offering degrees that are accredited both by AQ Austria and the Higher Learning Commission in the U.S. is a distinguishing feature of Webster Vienna,” said Julian Schuster, president of Webster University. “Prof. Dr. Pollak has been instrumental in ensuring our programs meet the high standards of both accreditors, which opens opportunities for our graduates to pursue careers or further education in Europe, the U.S., and beyond.”
“With faculty and staff who are committed to providing strong academic programs supported by student services and student life activities, Webster Vienna has been successful in attracting diverse degree-seeking students,” said Nancy Hellerud, vice president for academic affairs. “These factors – in addition to a location in the world’s most livable city – also make Webster Vienna a popular study abroad destination for Webster students and students from WINS (Webster International Network of Schools) partners. We thank Dr. Pollak for his leadership and contributions to Webster.”
Pollak will continue to serve as rector of Webster Vienna through October 2024. Interim plans will soon be announced, followed by information on the search for the next rector.
“The executive board, comprised of Nora Binder, head of human resources, Michael Postman, director of finance and administration, and Sam Schubert, campus associate director, have the present insight and targets for the near and long-term goals, which will ensure a smooth leadership transition and further advance the campus,” said Ryan Guffey, director general for global campuses.
“It is an exciting time in the history of Webster Vienna Private University,” shared Stephan Zapotocky, chair of the University Council. “World-class faculty and staff, the largest student body in recent years and new programs on the horizon make WVPU an attractive place to work and study.”
