Become a Data Protection Leader With a Degree in Computer Science with an Artificial Intelligence Emphasis

WVPU’s BS in Computer Science with an Emphasis in Artificial Intelligence focuses on computer science, machine learning and data analysis. Students learn to develop algorithms and systems for a variety of applications, including healthcare, economics and life sciences. The program also helps students develop strong math, writing and communication skills.

Combining classroom learning and hands-on training, students learn program and system verification, usability, modeling and project management. In addition, they learn to plan and execute projects that solve real-world challenges.

Learning Outcomes

Students who complete this program will be able to:

  • Demonstrate a mastery of computer science in the core knowledge areas of software development, algorithms and data structures, computer organization, hardware, architecture, and data and information management, and theoretical foundations of the discipline.
  • Apply knowledge of computer science to solve complex and unpredictable problems.
  • Describe how technological advances impact social issues and professional practice.
  • Write and orally communicate technical material effectively and professionally.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the vocabulary of machine learning and data analysis terms and phraseology.
  • Demonstrate a working knowledge of machine learning and data analysis in practice.
  • Describe the roles, responsibilities and tools of a machine learning and data analysis professional.

Information about the BS in Computer Science with an Emphasis in Artificial Intelligence

Admission to the BS program in Computer Science with an Emphasis in Artificial Intelligence follows the general admission requirements for undergraduate programs with supplemental requirements.

  1. Proof of a strong foundation in mathematics, demonstrated through:
    1. Minimum secondary school grades in all math courses in the last 3 years of secondary school of 3.0 based on a 4-point scale or its converted equivalent in international or state-recognized educational systems, or
    2. Minimum grades in the last year of specific educational programs/minimum scores in school leaving examinations, as follows (or their equivalents in other countries).

  1. In addition, applicants to the Computer Science (BSc) program must submit:
    1. one recommendation letter testifying to the student’s skills and interest in Information Technologies from the applicant’s teacher, supervisor or similar;
    2. Summary of related extra-curricular activities and competitions (e.g., Robotics, Coding/Programming, "Hackathons (Science and Technology fairs)" or out-of-school courses or projects.
