VIADUCT - Enhancing Visibility of the Academic Dialogue on EU-Turkey Cooperation

Webster Vienna Private University is pleased to announce its cooperation with VIADUCT, a project aiming to create a large academic network with universities and partner institutions from the EU, Turkey and surrounding countries. VIADUCT’s objective is to promote research, teaching and policy dialogue, as well as build knowledge on EU-Turkey relations.

The Jean Monnet VIADUCT network was launched on September 1st, 2017. The network encompasses 40 partner institutions and one extended network partner from 36 member countries. The project is coordinated by Prof. Wolfgang Wessels and Dr. Funda Tekin at CETEUS, University of Cologne, and will run for a period of three years until August 31st, 2020.

The historical complexity and volatility of EU-Turkey relations are reflected by research and teaching in this field. There are international research projects as well as much smaller and nationally funded studies and projects dealing with Turkey, including its relationship with the EU. Linking these different projects, diffusing knowledge on the European Integration process and exploiting synergies between international players constitutes real added-value for European Integration studies.

The VIADUCT consortium will distribute four awards for research related to VIADUCT’s cross-sectoral issues. The following awards will be presented by four lead partner institutions:

  • Security and politics (‘power’) awarded by Prof. Ben Tonra (UCD)
  • Economics and energy (‘resources’) awarded by Prof. Johannes Pollak (WVPU)
  • Migration and identity (‘people’) award by Angeliki Dimitriadi, PhD (ELIAMEP)
  • The ‘Future of the EU’ awarded by Prof. Frank Schimmelfennig (ETHZ)

The VIADUCT Public Debates will foster policy dialogue by building on a multiplier effect throughout the network. VIADUCT will organize four Public Debates, each related to one of the cross-sectorial issues ‘Power’, ‘People’, ‘Resources’ and ‘the EU’s Future’:

  • Security and politics (‘power’), organized in Helsinki by FIIA
  • Migration and identity (‘people’), organized in Athens by ELIAMEP
  • ‘The EU’s future’, organized in Berlin by IEP
  • Energy and economics (‘resources’), organized in Vienna by WVPU
