Elementary German: Level I

Background and Facts

Vanessa Winkler studied Secondary Education for Psychology/Philosophy and German, with an emphasis on German as a Foreign/Second Language, at the University of Vienna. Her research interests include Applied Linguistics, Film, Literature, and Culture in German Language Teaching and Learning.

Prior to joining WVPU, Ms. Winkler gained considerable experience in designing curricula and teaching German courses from beginner to advanced levels, as well as courses in German for professional and academic purposes at a number of Austrian institutions (e.g., Volkshochschule Wien, Alpha Sprachinstitut, and the Diplomatic Academy Vienna). Alongside her teaching, she is also involved in Higher Education project management at the Postgraduate Center of the University of Vienna, where she works in the certificate program Kompetenzfeld Auslandslektorat for OeAD (Austrian Agency for International Cooperation in Education and Research) lecturers of German, as well as the certificate program Deutsch als Zweit- und Fremdsprache unterrichten that trains teachers for German as a Second/Foreign Language.

Ms. Winkler is also a member of the ÖDaF (Austrian Association of German as a Foreign/Second Language). Apart from teaching she regularly participates in literature circles, writes poetry and enjoys learning Russian.
