Background and Facts

Lisa Stuckey is an art theorist and a cultural philosopher.

In 2020, she obtained her doctoral degree in philosophy from the Institute for Art Theory and Cultural Studies at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna with distinction. Her dissertation is entitled LAW ON TRIAL: Art and Jurisdiction in Investigations of Forensic Architecture and in Exemplary Contemporary Art.

During the 2018–2019 academic year, she was a Junior Fellow at IFK International Research Center for Cultural Studies Vienna, through which she undertook research stays at the Department of Visual Arts and Film of the Haus der Kulturen der Welt in Berlin and the Department of Visual Cultures at Goldsmiths, University of London. 

Stuckey’s curatorial and exhibition projects include “Fama Facing Trial: Words as Currency” (Studio Building Vienna, 2020), “Nor Heat Nor Gloom Of Night” (Tiger Strikes Asteroid Los Angeles, 2018), “I hear the waters’ song” (mumok cinema, 2017), “Posthuman Complicities” (xhibit, 2017), and “Prisoners of Venus: A Video Exhibition” (Atelierhaus, 2016).

Her research areas include Newest and Contemporary Art History, Institutional Critique, Moving Image Studies, Philosophical and Media Aesthetics, Performance Theory, Ritual Theory, and Philosophy of Law.
