Background and Facts

Alexi Kukuljevic is an artist and a philosopher based in Vienna and currently serves as university assistant to the University of Applied Art Vienna’s Art Theory Department.

Following his studies in philosophy at Seattle University (BA 2000) and Villanova University (MA 2003, PhD 2009), Kukuljevic undertook research fellowships at the Jan Van Eyck Academy (Maastricht), IASPIS (Stockholm) and the Center for Expanded Poetics (Montréal). In addition to publishing essays in such journals as Problemi InternationalS: Journal of the Issue for Lacanian Ideological Critique and Crisis and Critique, he is also the author, most recently, of Liquidation World: On the Art of Living Absently (MIT Press, 2017), and is currently completing a book on comedy and horror entitled Like Hell It Is.

Alongside his work in philosophy, Kukuljevic’s artistic practice has led to exhibitions of his work at Palais de Tokyo Paris, Kunsthalle Leipzig, the ICA in Philadelphia, and the Museum of Contemporary Art in Ljubljana. His most recent exhibition was “All aleak” with Kim Nekarda at Å+STUDIO, Berlin.
