Testing

We accept several different internationally recognized English proficiency exams. Please see the accepted tests and minimum scores below.

Undergraduate Students

International English Tests

  • TOEFL (iBT)* - min. overall score of 80
  • TOEFL (paper-based test) - min. overall score of 550
  • IELTS Academic* - min. overall score of 6.0
  • Password English Language Testing -  min. overall score of 6.0
  • Pearson / PTE Academic - min. score of 53
  • iTEP -  min. score of 3.7
  • ACT - min. composite score of 23
  • WAEC English Exam - min. grade of B3
  • Cambridge Advanced Certificate (CAE only) - score A, B, C, min. numerical score of 169

IB Diploma Program:

  • HL English A - min. score of 4
  • HL English B - min. score of 5
  • SL English A - min. score of 5
  • SL English B - min. score of 6

GCE A Levels

If the school is not an English-speaking institution, then students will need to obtain a certain score on the “English – Language” exams A-level score of a B or higher.

SAT

Test Scores Prior to March 2016: Student must score at least an 800 with the following values in both sections:

  • Critical Reading: min. 400
  • Writing: min. 400

Test Scores from April 2016 onwards: students must score at least a 450 in the Evidence-Based Reading and Writing Section.

GTEC (CBT Exam)

  • Score of 1201 or above: Exempt from ESL

Graduate Students

International English Tests

  • TOEFL iBT - min. overall score of 80, with min. writing score of 22
  • TOEFL (paper-based test) - min. overall score of 550
  • IELTS Academic - min. overall score of 6.5
  • Password English Language Testing -  min. overall score of 6.5
  • Pearson / PTE Academic - min. score of 53
  • iTEP -  min. score of 3.9
  • Cambridge Advanced Certificate (CAE only) - score A or B; min. numerical score of 176
  • GTEC (CBT Exam) - score of 1201 or above

 

English is waived when the applicant is a citizen of, or has attended an accredited institution for at least three years in one of the following countries (applicants must submit high school transcripts for verification) :

  • Antigua and Barbuda
  • Australia
  • The Bahamas
  • Barbados
  • Belize
  • Canada (except Quebec)
  • Dominica
  • Ghana
  • Grenada
  • Guyana
  • Jamaica
  • New Zealand
  • St Kitts and Nevis
  • St Lucia
  • St Vincent and the Grenadines
  • Trinidad and Tobago
  • Canada
  • United Kingdom (England, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales)

OR
Completed at least one academic year of college-level coursework conducted in English at a regionally accredited U.S. institution of higher learning (ESL coursework does not qualify towards the one full year exception)
