Textbook Policy

Required reading material for Webster Vienna coursework is included in the tuition. Students collect these materials from the Textbook Service located on the 4th floor. To order reading material, please fill out this Textbook Order Form for each course every term and return it to the Junior Librarian. If you do not wish to order any required reading material, please indicate this on the form as well.

Deadlines to submit the textbook order form:
Fall (I & II) - June 1st, Spring (I & II) - October 1st, Summer - April 1st
Please note that the deadlines are set one month before the course syllabus is due to ensure that the reading material is available and deliverable to the Vienna campus. No textbook order forms are accepted after the course syllabus deadline.

What is required reading?
Any reading assignment that students are formally assessed on and that is clearly integrated into the learning process per final syllabus.

What is supplemental reading?
Reading materials that are not essential to mastering the content of the class, but should be available and put on reserve for students in the library. Supplemental reading (available in the library) will be purchased upon budgetary approval.

Desk copies & inspection copies

Faculty will receive a desk copy of the books that are required readings per final syllabus. Desk copies are not provided in addition to inspection copies.

Inspection copies are sent at the discretion of the publisher. If a publisher offers a book as inspection copy and the library has a direct contact with the publisher, the library can request inspection copies on behalf of the instructor. Some publishers prefer direct contact with the faculty and do not accept requests from 3rd parties. If a book is not available as an academic inspection copy, faculty can ask to add the book to the library collection, pending budgetary approval, and can borrow the library’s copy.

Additional book copies beyond required reading, supplemental reading, desk copies or inspection copies

Faculty can request books to be ordered for the library, pending budgetary approval, and borrow them or have them put on reserve for their course. The library does not order material for departmental collections (Fachbibliotheken) or individual offices.
