Psychology Department - Labs & Services
Can be Lab (Cognitive & Affective Neuroscience and Behavior Laboratory)
The Psychology Department focuses its research activities on “Applied Cognitive and Affective Sciences“. In order to contribute to this blooming field of research we build up lab facilities to accommodate all possible approaches to study cognition and affect in an applied manner.
In particular, we created a lab environment that is called the CanBeLab (Cognitive&Affective Neuroscience and Behavior Laboratory). We CAN take various behavioral measures including video analysis of facial expressions. We also record brain activities (EEG), we conduct startle reflex modulation studies (to quantify emotion) and we can investigate facial expressions via facial electromyography (fEMG). In addition, we CAN also take traditional measures such as heart rate, skin conductance, respiration rate, body motion and temperature. All this in combination with a battery of available psychological tests enables us to do applied cognitive and affective research.
