Background and Facts

Dr. Grischany studied history at the universities of Hamburg and Vienna, and also graduated from the Diplomatic Academy in Vienna, before he received his PhD in Modern European History at the University of Chicago (2007) with a dissertation on the Austrian Wehrmacht service (supervised by John W. Boyer). He has taught at the University of Chicago and University of Arkansas (Fayetteville) before he became a lecturer in history at Webster Vienna Private University (2013). While his main scholarly interest concerns Modern German Nationalism from 1815 to 1945, his current research focusses more on the integrative forces of the European nation state.
