Research Seminar: An Organizational Approach to Public Governance in Times of Turbulence
Friday, March 2, 2018 - 1:00pm - room 4.06/07

The International Relations Department invites students, staff and faculty to the Research Seminar by Jarle Trondal, Professor at ARENA - University of Oslo and at the University of Agder, Norway, titled “An Organizational Approach to Public Governance in Times of Turbulence.”

Prof. Trondal’s main fields of research include EU governance, EU agencies, European public administration and organizational studies. He has published numerous articles in some of the leading political science journals such as Journal of European Public Policy, JCMS, West European Politics, Public Administration, Journal of European Integration, and European Journal of Political Research and is one of Norway's most cited social science scholars. In 2017 Trondal has co-edited the book “Governance in Turbulent Times” (Oxford University Press) and another book on the subject titled “An Organizational Approach to Public Governance” is forthcoming with the same publisher.

The Research Seminar will shed light on how governments and organizations (re-)act in times of turbulence and will try to answer questions such as: What are the conditions for political development and decay, and the likelihood of sustained political order? What are the limits of established rule as we know it? How much stress can systems tackle before they reach some kind of limit? How do governments tackle enduring ambiguity and uncertainty in their systems and environments? How does the EU's system of governance change under the impacts of institutional crises?
