Student Leadership retreat

Last weekend students of the leadership certificate program Webster LEADS gathered in Hainburg for Webster Vienna's first-ever 24-hour mini-leadership retreat. Ten freshmen and four upperclassmen Senior Student Leaders attended.

Led by the program's Senior Leaders and Student Affairs staff, the group worked on team-building, goal-setting, reflection, team-work, and group communication. Activities included mapping their leadership journeys, cooking, and discussing different leadership personalities.

Faculty and students of Webster Vienna stopped by the Austrian Red Cross donation center to give blood

Pre-Halloween Blood Drive

As has become a once-a-semester tradition, staff and students of Webster Vienna stopped by the Austrian Red Cross donation center to give blood last night.

This semester's theme was Halloween-related, with a vampire Gorlok mascot and the slogan "Not only vampires need blood!"

Congrats especially go to first-time donor, bachelor student Anniken Schackt. "I'm proud of myself," she said after a post-donation snack, "I was pretty nervous before but I did it."

New Student Orientation Fall 2

Webster Vienna once again welcomed a new group of students to our community this week.

Our freshest Gorloks were put through the paces of what it means to be a student at Webster: learning the ropes of their programs and the resources available to them; getting to know each other and our current students; and a first glimpse into what Vienna has to offer for the next four years.

A big thanks to all the Webster LEADS students who helped welcome their new colleagues by leading workshops and answering questions, and we wish our new students success with us!

Refugee charity day

Webster Vienna hosted its annual Webster Works Worldwide charity bake sale this week.

This year's theme, by student request, was 3 B's for refugees: Bake, Buy or Bring. Our community baked, bought and brought needed items to help refugees in Austria.

In all, we raised over 900EUR and collected lots of donations-in-kind to help out! A team of students used the donations to buy needed goods, which were then delivered to organizations assisting refugees and asylum seekers in Austria.

Webster team at Vienna Night Run

Once again a team of Webster Vienna students, staff and faculty braved the cool autumn evening to participate in the Vienna Night Run along with 20,000 other running enthusiasts.

Not only was it fun and healthy, but part of each racer's fee went to the charity Licht fuer die Welt to help seeing-impaired children in developing countries.

Webster Vienna Community BBQ

Last Saturday, the Webster Vienna Community came together for our traditional barbecue, hosted by Student Services, the Student Government Association and our housing partners OeJAB.

Students, faculty, staff, friends, a Gorlok chef and even pets gathered at the beautiful Studentenheim Europahaus to enjoy grilled treats and the sunny weather.

Hunger was sated, stories were exchanged, new friendships were struck, and frisbee-throwing skills improved. We're already looking forward to the next one!

Student Life Fair

On September 8, Webster Vienna's Student Government Association and Student Services invited all students to the annual Student Life Fair to discover all that community life has to offer!

Lots of students, especially freshmen, stopped by the atrium for a drink or snack, to join one or more clubs or find out about our different uni services. Click here for a list of student organizations.

Students host art festival

Last Friday night, Palais Wenkheim's atrium was a humming hub of creativity, as a group of Webster Vienna students put on the Art After Dark festival.

Led by Media and Communications student Candice Randall, a group of 16 young artists showed off their work, including painting, sketching, or photography. The visual feast was accompanied by live music as well.

Of the artists who took part, a dozen were Webster Vienna students or alumni - we're proud of our talent and look forward to the next show!

New Students Welcomed for Fall

Last week Webster Vienna welcomed a new cohort of undergraduate and graduate students to our community for the fall semester.

A full week's program awaited them, to help them get settled in Vienna, to meet and make new friends, and get familiar with the Webster way. A dedicated team of student volunteers, staff and faculty made sure the week turned out to be a great success!
