Webster & Cybersecurity - exclusive event for industry experts

Last week Webster Vienna Private University invited selected industry experts and journalists to an exclusive event on the topic of Cybersecurity on campus. Dr. Thomas Johnson, Associate Vice President, Chief of Strategic Initiatives and Interim Dean of Webster University’s School of Business and Management who chaired the event, presented Webster’s activity in the area of Cybersecurity and introduced the international Cybersecurity Research Institute founded by the main campus in St. Louis last year. The Institute is a global research and learning environment for fostering advancement in and understanding of the nature of cyberspace and its impact on the human condition. There are four Cyber labs in place used to support safe and scientifically valid research, experimentation, collaboration and learning. Since one of its main goals is to connect science with business the Cybersecurity Research Institute has grown to around 50 members, among them companies such as Siemens, Cisco, HP, IBM, McAffee, CagGemini or the American Red Cross, that can benefit from services such as information sharing, workforce development, corporate and industry training, and access to top-flight expertise.

Webster Vienna also presented its new Certificate Program in Cybersecurity-Threat Detection which will be offered for the first time this Fall 2016. The demand for cybersecurity experts has increased by 80 percent during the last six years. However, cyber-crime and data protection have become challenges that not only IT experts but most managers are expected to tackle today. The program is a compact 4 course certificate that can be completed within 9 months.
