WebMUN 2017 is Around the Corner
Webster Model United Nations 2017 (WebMUN) is taking place this weekend on Webster Vienna Private University's campus, Palais Wenkheim. This year's theme is “The Sustainable Development Goals: 17 Goals to Transform Our World”. WebMUN brings students from around the world to Vienna for a four-day conference from October 13th - 16th.
Secretary General Ava Novidi says they are expecting 130 participants from all around the world. “We have larger delegations from Austria, Georgia, Ukraine, the Netherlands, Nigeria, Slovakia and many other little delegations with over 40 different nationalities.”
This is a great opportunity for students to acquire new skills or hone existing ones. Students will incorporate public speaking and research skills, as each participant/team of participants will need to research a country’s stance on various committee topics.
The 2017 conference will consist of 6 interconnected committees: United Nations Security Council, European Council, UNICEF, UNFCCC, OPEC, Press committee and Diplomatic Corps. WebMUN is also a great opportunity to become a part of a wider Model United Nations community, in which students can meet other students from around the world.
WebMUN is not just about academics and politics, it is a chance to meet an international group of people while exploring an amazing city. Apart from debating, the conference participants will visit the UN and OPEC in Vienna, go on a city tour, and eat traditional Austrian food at the renowned Schweizerhaus in Prater.
There are no barriers to take part, Novidi notes. She says, “Everyone is more than welcome. We [the organizing committee] guide participants.” Students don’t need to have experience – just interest and passion in the topic area.
Registration for this year is already closed, but students interested in becoming more involved and in planning the next conference should visit the website or contact Novidi at email@example.com.
