Student Life Awards 2016
The Webster Vienna community gathered together this week to recognize and celebrate the achievements of our student community leaders at the first ever Student Life Awards ceremony.
A familiar atmosphere, coupled with sushi and a well-dressed crowd of students and supporting faculty and staff made for a great night!
Inspired by the Webster Groves campus' Student Awards, a committee including Student Affairs staff, Student Government, and faculty chose the categories, nominees and winners for this inaugural event.
Hosted by work study scholarship recipient Sara Oroz of Student Affairs and Diana Vulpescu of the Student Government Association, the night began with the local award categories.
Marie Theres Huber was selected Outstanding Freshman (also nominated: Stephanie Bürger). In a sweet gesture, Huber, who could not attend, had asked Bürger prior to the show to accept the award on her behalf should Huber be chosen.
Angelina Voinova received Outstanding Sophomore (also nominated: Angelika Kurnosenko).
Outstanding Junior went to both nominees, Ilian Scheutz and Matthias Smolej-Windbrechtinger, since they had made equally significant contributions, often working together.
Philipp Grüll took home Outstanding Senior (also nominated: Heba Afifi).
Alexis Wing received the Outstanding Student Government Association Award (also nominated: Ilayda Edali).
Fleur de Dieu Audrey Kodjo received the Campus Voice Award (also nominated: Philipp Grüll).
Steven Wingate received the Graduate Community Award (also nominated: Anda Radu).
The Football Club received the Outstanding Student Organization award (also nominated: Model United Nations).
Several global Webster awards were also handed out. The recipients were nominated by staff, faculty or fellow students and selected from across the Webster worldwide network.
Outstanding Student Employee Awards went to Kathleen Burns and Sara Oroz.
The prestigious Dean's Award for Service winners of the past two years were recognized as well: Tobias Salfellner, Dennis Heumann, Ivee Sanasinh, Kathleen Coyne-Boyles, and a special group award for those who volunteered intensively with refugees during the peak of the needs in Vienna (Luma Kamel, Heba Afifi, Ragad Al-Rashid, Marie Theres Huber, Ilian Scheutz, Philipp Grüll).
Guest performances included a vocals performance by Webster's Got Talent Vienna 2016 winner Alexander Haubenburger, and a spoken word performance by Webster's Got Talent Europe 2016 runner-up Ellen Faye Adams.
