Orthodox Easter Celebration
The Webster community gathered last Friday to celebrate Orthodox Easter, an important holiday for many of our students.
An egg-painting station was set up in the atrium for all who wished to try their hand at the traditional activity - and students, staff and family members from many different faiths did just that. Their creations included traditional designs, but also patterns incorporating their own traditions, including Persian lettering and other Middle Eastern styles.
For followers of many Christian denominations (for example in the Russian, Bulgarian, Serbian, Greek, Syrian, and Ukrainian Orthodox churches), Easter is celebrated according to the Julian calendar, and falls some time after Catholic Easter celebrations in Austria.
Orthodox Easter often falls during the end-of-semester exam rush, but this year's holiday provided a break and a bit of fun in the midst of all that studying!
Many thanks to event organizers Angelina Voinova, Ilian Scheutz and Sara Oroz. For some awesome painted egg pics, see our Facebook album.
