Mauthausen Memorial Visit

Last Saturday, Webster students travelled to Upper Austria for a memorial visit to the former Nazi concentration camp of Mauthausen.

From 1938 to 1945, Mauthausen was the main concentration camp in what is now Austria (then part of Germany) until its liberation by Allied troops on May 5 - one of the last camps to be freed.

The camp has been partially preserved and our 25 students spent the afternoon on a participative guided tour to learn about the camp's tragic history. It was a particularly touching experience for one student, who had two relatives survive imprisonment at the camp.
Student Services, which organized the excursion, plans to make it an annual event to allow all students, staff and faculty the opportunity to visit.
