IR Student Union hosts Ambassador Erfani

The International Relations Student Union hosted His Excellecy Ayoob Erfani, Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan to Austria, for a guest lecture on March 5, 2014.  The well-attended lecture, "The Transformation of Afghanistan: The role of the International Community" highlighted the improvements that have take place in recent years in Afghanistan, particularly in security, education and women's rights.  However,  the Ambassador stressed the need for further improvements and the obligation of the international community to help.  In addition, the ambassador announced that the embassy was looking for current students to act as interns, and  we are please to report that MA student Andriy Dvirnyy has since been selected.

The guest lecture was organized as part of a series of events planned by the International Relations Student Union (IRSU).  In addition to planning and attending public guest lectures, the IRSU holds small informal discussion, movie nights, and other extra-cirricular activities. The next event planned is an information session on the Regional Academy on the United Nations, an program that gives participants the chance to attend lectures by well-known UN experts and Practitioners in three countries.
