IR Faculty Brutschin Presentation at 2015 ENCoRe Meeting
Dr. Elina Brutschin presented her latest research project together with Dr. Zorzeta Bakaki (ETH Zürich) at the European Network for Conflict Research Meeting (ENCoRe) at the German Development Institute (D.I.E.) in Bonn, 5-7 March 2015.
In their paper "The Competition over Resources: A New Approach in the Context of Low Scale Violence" the authors argue that the literature on the “resource backed aggression” overestimates the possible effects of energy resources on foreign policy behavior as it does not consider the competitive nature of resource markets.
ENCoRe is funded as a COST (European Cooperation in Science and Technology) action and is intended to bring together scholars from renowned universities across Europe. Apart from the academic panels the Bonn 2015 meeting also included panels with policy makers on the forecasting of international crises as well as on the role of the Internet on conflicts.
Dr. Zorzeta Bakaki will offer a workshop at Webster Vienna, Private University, on her main area of research, conflict mediation, on March 21, from 2:30 to 5:30 pm. Students will learn about academic research on conflict mediation but also about the application of mediation strategies through a crisis simulation.
