Inaugural Graduate Research Summit 2017

Last Friday evening, Palais Wenkheim was beaming with excitement as young researchers presented their research to proud faculty, staff and friends on the inaugural Graduate Research Summit (GRS).

The evening began with a specialized thesis workshop lead by language center tutors, the counseling center, and Professor Dr. Marc Mehu. Oral presentations were given by four students and alumni: Mauro Ortiz, Anda Radu, Marianne Grant, and Ainur Kalitova. The research presented was selected by the Scientific Committee: Dr. Pernille Eskerod, Dr. Peter Walla, Dr. Bradley Wiggins, and Katharina Neumann, BA. Following the oral presentations, WVPU Director Prof. Dr. Johannes Pollak gave a keynote speech on the relevance of student research and the many challenges encountered as a researcher.

Awards were later presented to the top two oral presentations and posters. First place for oral presentations went to Mauro Ortiz who presented his research ‘’Drivers of Engagement in Video Advertisements’’, while first place for poster presentations went to Kathryn Witkowski and her research ‘’Failing the commons: How Corruption Impacts Carbon Dioxide Emissions’’.

A raffle for two Amazon gift cards was held after the awards ceremony following an informal poster presentation and mingling session featuring delicious treats and refreshments.
