Football team friendlies
Webster Vienna's Football club tested their mettle last week in two spirited friendly matches against local opponents.
Webster's football talents formed two 7-man teams to square off on an unseasonably warm night against PROSA, a high school team consisting of asylum seekers, and the experienced squad of NAFA, a local African football academy.
In the absence of several key players due to academic commitments, the Webster team captained by bachelor student and defensive anchor Ahmed Ahmed played a tight, defensive style en route to an honorable 3-8 result versus NAFA. Stand-in goalkeeper Ibrahim Abdel Raouf's heroics stymied numerous scoring chances, and striker Alex Leon scored put in one of the three Gorlok goals. Fellow student Amir Darwish captained the Webster lads in the PROSA game, which saw Webster turn a difficult first half into a close-run 5-6 result in the second leg.
Student residence supervisor and Webster football coach Tanju Cengiz arranged the matches, which represented the first such friendlies Webster's football club has undertaken in its preparation for the upcoming Webster European Cup in April.
Thanks to PROSA, NAFA, Tanju and all the players for a great night of football! For more pictures check out our Facebook album.
