European Studies in the Heart of Europe
Continuning a recently established tradition, a Munich International Summer University (MISU) – LMU organized group spent two intense weeks in Vienna (July 13-26, 2015).
Twenty-one students from four continents, with almost everyone studying at a different university, started their European Studies program at Webster. The first stage of their course was offered in cooperation with the International Relations Department.
Dr. Franco Algieri, IR Department Head, gave lectures on various EU topics, such as its constituency, historic evolution and common foreign policy. Classes did also cover an introduction to the field of International Relations in general.
Off-campus activities included visits to Vienna’s historic city center, Schönbrunn, the United Nations and the OSCE. An introductory lesson to Viennese Waltz, taught in Webster’s own Atrium by two dancers of Vienna’s “Tanzclub Schwarz-Gold” made students experience one of Vienna’s most famous cultural traditions.
The European Studies program went on in Prague for its second part and will be concluded with a third and final session in Munich.
