Dr. Pollak Appointed as New Director

Dr. Johannes Pollak has been appointed director of the Webster Vienna campus, as announced by Peter Maher, associate vice president of Academic Affairs, International Campuses and Initiatives at Webster University in St. Louis.

Pollak has served as interim director of the Vienna campus since July 2016. He joined Webster University in 2009 as professor of Political Science.

Previously, he held positions as lecturer at the University of Vienna and the University of Salzburg and was head of the Vienna-based Research Group on European Integration at the Institute for Advanced Studies (IHS). He was also a senior researcher at the Institute for European Integration Research of the Austrian Academy of Sciences; a Jean Monnet Fellow at the Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies, EUI Florence; a Leverhulme Fellow at the University of Reading (United Kingdom); and a senior visiting fellow at the London School of Economics and Political Science.

“I’m delighted with the appointment of Dr. Johannes Pollak as director of Webster University Vienna,” Maher said. “There are many opportunities for enhancing the Vienna campus, and strengthen its collaboration with our international network. I am confident in Dr. Pollak’s ability to lead these efforts.”

Webster will benefit from his background as a researcher, professor and a leader who knows Webster well. Since Pollak assumed duties as interim director last summer, the University attained re-accreditation by AQ Austria, the national accrediting body, through 2022. This ensures the continued dual U.S. and Austrian accreditation of Webster, known in Austria as Webster Vienna Private University.

“I’m thankful for this leadership opportunity at Webster University,” Professor Pollak said. “Webster has a remarkable history in Vienna, and I look forward to guiding us in serving students and seizing new opportunities for this campus.”
