Algieri published in new text on the EU’s role in International Politics
An adaptation of Dr. Franco Algieri’s earlier work on the EU’s role in international politics has been published in a new text from the International Debate Education Association (IDEA).
A Different Kind of Power brings together important contributions from the debate on the nature of the EU. Being without historical precedent, it is still unclear exactly how the EU functions on the world stage, and in which direction it may be heading. Dr. Algieri brings his expertise to the debate with a special focus on China.
Dr. Algieri’s featured article, titled “Back in the High Life Again? Shifting Patterns of EU-China Relations,” examines the ebb and flow of Euro-Sino relations since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1975. This relationship is complicated by numerous factors including Europe’s ambiguous China policy, and China’s uncertain postures in its rise as a global power.
Dr. Algieri highlights dynamics including the EU and China’s trade partnership, human rights tensions, and strategic security concerns. The relationship between the EU and China is sure to be one of the key issues of international relations going into the 21st century and merits close investigation.
